Escaping the Rat Race for a Tiny House in the country
Sometimes, the best way to reset is to simply step away — from the noise, the to-do lists, the rush of the everyday. That’s exactly what I did recently, packing my bags (and Holly’s treats) into the Mazda CX-5 and heading west to Orange, NSW, for a soul-soothing escape in the countryside.
Our destination? A beautifully designed tiny house surrounded by rolling hills and the sweet silence only the bush can provide. I found it through Into The Wild Escapes, a platform that curates unique, off-grid tiny homes across Australia — and yes, many of them are pet-friendly!
The Journey
The drive from Sydney to Orange is a scenic one, and the CX-5 handled the country roads with ease. With Holly curled up in the backseat and a playlist full of mellow tunes, we arrived already feeling more relaxed than we’d been in weeks.

Minimalist yet cosy, the tiny house had everything we needed — comfy bedding, a well-stocked kitchenette, an outdoor firepit, and most importantly, space to breathe. No Wi-Fi, no TV — just birdsong and wide-open skies. Holly loved exploring the fenced-in area and napping in sunbeams while I read and sipped coffee on the deck.
The Experience
From sunrise strolls with Holly to sunset wine under the stars, each moment felt like a gentle reminder of how good it is to slow down. Whether you’re after solitude, reconnection, or simply a break from city life, this kind of escape has a way of resetting your perspective.
