Gearing Up for the Ride
Before embarking on any long-distance journey, preparation is key. Ensure your motorcycle is in excellent condition, pack the essential gear, and plan the route. Take into account the multiple options for the trip, Coastal route is more scenic but longer in duration, or you can do what I did, the most direct route via the motorway.
Sydney to Albury
As you leave the bustling city of Sydney behind, the road opens up, and you find yourself surrounded by the picturesque landscapes of New South Wales. Enjoy the diverse scenery, from the rolling hills of the Southern Highlands. On this particular trip I stopped in at the Schmokin Cafe in Berrima for a coffee and a chat before hitting the road. Not too much further and it was a lunch stop recommended to me by my big Sister. In a very small town called Jugiong, stands the Sir George hotel. This pub was built in 1845 and not only is it beautiful, but the menu and the food is exceptional.
After lunch I rugged up again and had a very cold trip all the way to Albury. Here is was time to unpack the bike, have a hot shower and get some shut eye before hitting the road again tomorrow.
Albury to Apollo Bay
Leaving Albury nice and early, the ride becomes more captivating as you enter Victoria. I did have to do the obligatory stop in at Glenrowan for a photo with Ned Kelly before continuing on as The Great Ocean Road awaits.
The Holy Grail: Scalloping in Apollo Bay
After an invigorating ride, it's time to satisfy your hunger with the prize you've been chasing—a scallop pie in Apollo Bay. The sense of accomplishment, the breathtaking landscapes, and the freedom of the open road combine to create an unforgettable experience. The memories of this adventure will stay with you long after the last bite.
