I had a MASSIVE BURGER - Zack's on central Road in Thredbo
Autumn Road Trip to the Snowy Mountains in My Subaru BRZ to Zack's on Central Road

There’s nothing quite like an autumn road trip—crisp mountain air, winding roads, and the golden hues of the changing leaves. This time, I set out on a journey in my Subaru BRZ to one of the most scenic spots in New South Wales: the Snowy Mountains. The destination? Thredbo Village, with a very specific goal in mind—tackling the biggest cheeseburger I’ve ever seen at Zack’s on Central Road Café.
The Drive: A Perfect Match for the BRZ
Driving to the Snowy Mountains in autumn is a dream, especially when you’re behind the wheel of a BRZ. The lightweight chassis, rear-wheel drive, and precise steering make for an engaging experience on the winding alpine roads. Leaving Sydney, I took the scenic route down the Monaro Highway, watching the landscape shift from cityscape to rolling farmland before reaching the rugged beauty of the mountains.
As I climbed higher in altitude, the trees put on a spectacular display of reds, oranges, and yellows. The cooler temperatures were a welcome change, and with the windows down, I could breathe in the crisp alpine air. Every twist and turn in the road made me appreciate the BRZ’s handling even more—it was built for roads like these.
Thredbo Village: An Alpine Escape
Arriving in Thredbo Village in the afternoon, I parked the BRZ and took a stroll through the picturesque alpine town. Even without the snow, Thredbo is a stunning destination. Hikers were making their way back from the trails, and the village had a relaxed, welcoming vibe. I could have easily spent the day exploring, but I had a mission to complete—the legendary cheeseburger at Zack’s.
The Cheeseburger Challenge at Zack’s on Central Road
Zack’s on Central Road Café has a reputation for serving up incredible food, but their cheeseburger is on another level. When it arrived at my table, I had to take a moment to appreciate the sheer size of it—stacked high with juicy beef patties, melted cheese, fresh toppings, and a perfectly toasted bun. It was a burger lover’s dream.
Digging in, the flavors were just as epic as the size. The beef was cooked to perfection, the cheese oozed into every bite, and the combination of fresh ingredients made for an incredibly satisfying meal. It was a true food challenge, but one I was more than happy to take on.
The Journey Home
With a full stomach and a contented grin, I reluctantly left Thredbo behind. The drive back was just as enjoyable, with the sun setting over the mountains, casting a golden glow over the landscape. The BRZ felt even more at home on the descent, hugging the corners as if it knew I was savoring every moment of the drive.
Autumn in the Snowy Mountains is something special, and a road trip in the BRZ made it even more memorable. Between the stunning scenery, thrilling roads, and that incredible cheeseburger at Zack’s, this was a journey worth every kilometer. If you’re looking for the perfect excuse to hit the road this season, let this be it—just make sure you bring an appetite!
